What happened at ICANN68?
ICANN68 was the second remote ICANN meeting and the first Virtual Policy Forum – the shortest meeting of the year – focused on progressing ICANN’s policy work.
With uncertainty caused by the pandemic, restrictions on travel and border crossings, it is unclear when ICANN will be able to responsibly hold a face to face meeting in the future but it will not happen until March 2021 at the earliest. This is in line with the Board’s recent decision to switch the last meeting of the year, ICANN69, to a virtual meeting.
Focusing on policy development, the primary focus for this meeting, it was noticeable that the different policy groups have managed to continued their work effectively during the pandemic, maintaining participation levels and aggressive schedules.
